Scope of Scientific Communication: Reach beyond Relevance

We often think that science is only for people who understand it. If that were true, no one would have become a scientist now because, at first glance, science always seems intricate. Scientists might be the people who tried hard to learn science, but obviously understood it. Ever since science has become difficult to understand (it has always been), new pedagogies have evolved to help pupils learn. However, none of them was as useful as technology because they all failed to communicate, even though they tried to teach.

Yet whether it is technology or human effort that has helped people understand with utmost clarity, they both have succeeded in one thing. They both switched from teaching to communication because the human brain loves to communicate, and humans learn the most when they communicate.

This is indeed true with science; whether the aim is to learn or teach, it always comes down to communication.

There is a critical distinction between saying "I understand this" and "I can explain this" because explanation is an expression of communication. The human brain does not retain what it was taught; rather, it can remember the information that can be explained.

Science, as we all know, emerged from abstract concepts. The very idea of individuals was eventually experimented on materials and ultimately formed as empirical evidence. Practically speaking, the science that we know now has never been fully understood; moreover, people who could understand it became scientists and professionals who could utilise it. However, all those people who understand science could effectively communicate it.

And that’s the perk of communication!

Communication not only enables understanding, but it also creates the same level of comprehension among everyone! For some scientific concepts, preliminary concepts are required to explain complex subject matter. No matter what you choose to convey in science, a complex scientific topic cannot be understood without its basics! It puts an expert and a layperson on the same page, reading the same idea, in the same moment. Well, communication follows the same path, but in a different way. By translating scientific language into clear-cut visuals and simple storytelling, communication has brought science to laymen! People can now understand in their own language what scientific communication uses!

By utilising technology, scientific communication has become a comprehensive tool that can instil the basics of science and complex topics. This is only possible through scientific communication!
